Affiliate marketing is a very important tool or way for you to make money from just about any kind of website, social media page or e-mail. It might sound scary and complicated, but the truth is, it’s really pretty easy and is usually free to implement into your particular niche.
What Is Affiliate Marketing?
Affiliate marketing is a type of marketing in which a business rewards affiliates (you) for driving traffic and potential sales to the business by the affiliate’s own marketing efforts. There are four core players: the merchant (also known as ‘retailer’ or ‘brand’), the network (that contains offers for the affiliate to choose from and also takes care of the payments), the publisher (also known as ‘the affiliate’), and the customer. However, not ALL businesses belong to a network, and work directly with the affiliate.
Most, but not all, companies do not charge the affiliate to join their network or individual affiliate program. Again, most companies requires the potential affiliate to fill out an application before allowing them to sign on. They are looking for legitimacy and quality content, since the affiliate’s website will basically be the store front for their product or service.
It can, sometimes, take several days to weeks before the affiliate is notified of approval. Once approved, the affiliate will have access to training and product or service html codes to place on their own site to promote. This is how the affiliate will earn money. Every time a customer is directed to the merchant’s home page, the special html code tells the merchant where the customer came from. So, the affiliate will earn a commission on any sales that come from customers directed from their website.
How It Works
It may sound confusing, but it’s really not. And, you need no prior experience in online marketing whatsoever. Let me try to demonstrate the process for you, here:
Here we have Amazon as the MERCHANT. Amazon accepts the AFFILIATE’S application. The AFFILIATE reaches a CUSTOMER. The CUSTOMER is redirected to Amazon and makes a purchase. Amazon pays the AFFILIATE a commission.
In this example there was no network group involved. A network provides service to multiple merchants and handles payouts, etc.
Here are a few examples of affiliate networks that you can sign up with, once your get your website built and with some quality content…or, if you already have an online business with a website, you can click to join any of these:
