Without setting goals for yourself, you’re probably not going to get very far with your online business...or, with your personal life, for that matter. Without goals, you probably would never have heard of Bill Gates, Donald Trump, LeBron James or Oprah. Every successful person on the planet had a dream and set goals in order to fulfill those dreams.
We ALL need goals in order to achieve success. Think about every major accomplishment or milestone you’ve had, thus far, in your life. How did you get there? You set goals. Remember when you were in school? You were setting goals back then, even if you weren’t always aware of it. Say you loved basketball and wanted to be on the team, so you set a goal to make the team and you worked hard to get there. Or, maybe a goal was to pass an exam, win an award or even win the heart of a special girl (or boy). Now, think about how you reached those goals.
Think of goal setting as a pathway to get from point A to point B. Perhaps you’re in a dead end job (point A) and you decide it’s time for a change. Maybe you’ve always dreamed of being your own boss? So, you’ve set a goal (the pathway) for yourself to start an online business with your very own website. You work hard to get there, and finally you’ve reached point B, your successful online business.
Why Are Goals So Important
Goal setting is a powerful process for thinking about your ideal future, and for motivating yourself to turn your vision of this future into reality. Goals give you long term vision and short term motivation. Like climbing a ladder, each little step you take toward reaching the top, gets you that much closer to your vision and ultimately becomes your reality.
First, look at the big picture. Start with the big scale goals and then, break them down into smaller target goals that must be reached before you can reach those big guys. The best way to set goals is to write them down. This not only organizes your thoughts so it’s not so overwhelming, but it also holds you accountable. You’ve now put it on paper (or your laptop) and have sent it out to the universe, “this is what I wanna accomplish”.
Make an outline of 1-3 big scale goals
Break each one down into smaller target goals
Make notes under each of the smaller target goals on ways to reach each one.
Start researching and working toward each goal, big or small.
By writing your goals down, you will be able to track your progress and tick them off as you reach each one.
